The American Kidney Fund is getting ready to choose the artwork that will illustrate its 2009 calendar. Each page in the calendar will be illustrated by someone 18 or under who has kidney disease. During this exciting weekend, you'll get to know the other contest winners and their families; enjoy touring the monuments and sights of the city; and be honored at a special awards dinner.
The contest is open to all children in the United States who are under the age of 18 and who have kidney disease, including those who are on dialysis or who have received a kidney transplant.

The contest closes on April 30, 2008. Applications can also be found at most dialysis and transplant centers. The 2008 'Kid'ney Calendar winners, along with a family member, spent the weekend of September 14 - 16, 2007 in Washington, D.C. The families spent the weekend visiting various tourist attractions, attended an awards banquet honoring the winners, and had the chance to meet professional basketball players. Etan Thomas from the Washington Wizards and Nikki Teasley from the Washington Mystics participated in the opening night festivities where they joined the winners in games and arts and crafts.
The American Kidney Fund provides financial assistance to kidney patients and education to people who are at risk for kidney disease. Ninety-six cents of every dollar spent goes directly to programs and services. In 2007, the organization helped more than 68,000 kidney patients, distributing over $100 million in grants to assist patients with treatment-related expenses.
